Our Very Own Councilman from PA
John Ameno (with wife)

John Ameno, from the Johnstown, PA office is more than just American Mining's Loss Control Inspector. He's also a city councilman for his hometown of Apollo, PA. Here are some questions we asked him about his time as a councilman, along with his answers.

How large is Apollo? 1,675 people. It once was around 5,000, but the economics through the years have changed. Just for reference, Apollo is about 50 miles from Johnstown. Since I'm out of the office all but one day a week, that's not a bad commute. In fact, I just got back from New Mexico just after midnight last night.

How long have you been a councilman? 3 years at the end of this year. It's been rewarding and I plan to run again at the end of my term. We've created a new redevelopment plan for the town, including revitalizing the downtown area. We've helped bring a new Victorian-style gazebo to the town park. Several couples have even gotten married in it since we installed it this past September.

Spitzer Complaint and Investigation
NY Attorney General
Eliot Spitzer

Dominates Industry News

A complaint filed against Marsh & McLennan (Marsh) and naming AIG, ACE, Hartford and other insurance brokers and companies by New York Attorney General, Eliot Spitzer, continues to dominate media headlines tarnishing the image of the entire industry. The complaint alleges that Marsh and several other insurers and brokers rigged bids for insurance contracts so those brokers could receive additional incentive contingent commission compensation.

Spitzer contends, in part, that insurers paid Marsh based on how much business was placed with the insurer, the successful renewal of business, and the profitability of business. These compensation agreements were allegedly not disclosed to Marsh’s clients and – because Marsh is a broker whose responsibility is to represent the best interest of its clients – resulted in Marsh violating its fiduciary duty to clients by channeling business to favored insurers.

Halloween Contest Winner

Tina Pierce, Cereal Killer

This year's Halloween costume party had some of the most clever costumes we've seen in the years since we started. From this year's contest winner Tina Pierce, who came as a Cereal Killer (complete with cereal boxes) to Black-eyed Pea, Charelene Betz, we had some great Halloween creativity.
