| Kids'
Chance continued
The
purpose of Kids' Chance, Inc. is to provide financial
scholarships for children of permanently or catastrophically
injured or deceased workers to complete their education.
Now,
24 states, including Alabama and Pennsylvania, in
addition to Kentucky, have Kids' Chance programs.
(To learn more about Kids' Chance, visit www.kidschance.org.) The
Kentucky branch of Kids' Chance got started in 2001,
and got an official charter in 2002. Since then,
Kids' Chance has given 4 scholarships to date--three
in 2003 and the first of 2004 just last week.
The
scholarships are need-based up to $6,000 per year
and are available for either college or trade school
tuition. The goal of the Kentucky chapter has been
to double scholarships each year--to do this, they
are expanding their board beyond the insurance industry,
and have worked to include big names like UPS, Toyota,
and Ford.
They've
had good luck, getting sizable pledges from Ford,
UPS, and Toyota over the
next 5 years. Kids' Chance was also the chairity
that the Kentucky office of AMIC chose to donate
to
this past Christmas season.
