West Virginia Old Fund Claims Go LIVE!

A testament to the importance of coal mining: The West Virginia Coal Miner.
The statue is located directly outside the Main Capitol Building, near the Cultural Center and the West Virginia War Veterans Memorial. Designed and sculpted by native West Virginian Dr. Burl Jones, The West Virginia Coal Miner stands, in honor and in recognition of the men and women who have devoted a career, some a lifetime, towards providing the state, nation, and world with low-cost reliable household and industrial energy.

The go live date is here!

West Virginia old fund claims assigned to American Mining Claims Service have arrived!

Those two statements do not even begin to tell the story of the many, many meetings and hours upon hours of time that have gone into this.

Donna Shenesky, Vice President of Compliance, has been heading up the effort to have everything ready for this date.

We've been in countless meetings both at the WV OIC (Office Of The Insurance Commission) and in the branches getting ready for this day. It is exciting that the day is here.

Of course, now the real work begins and we will deliver what we said we would.

We're very fortunate to have the many talented people working with us and we've added a number of new staff members to ease the work load that these new claims will provide. We have Forte and our MIS department working on the technology side of things. We've developed a good working relationship with the WV OIC and are looking forward to a smooth transition.

We've hired several nurses and adjusters. At the branch offices, we've held meetings having new and old staff talk about themselves so everyone has a better understanding of the many strengths we have within our organization.

Bill Kenny, the Deputy Commissioner for WV OIC, is so excited about this transition that he has said to all of us that he definitely wants to see our branches with some of his staff.

Stay tuned in the coming months for more updates!

A Message from
William Berkley

All of us who sit safely at home enjoying our day to day lives, seeing our friends and families, have much to be thankful for.  As I sat over Thanksgiving weekend, I suddenly realized that many of the people who work in our company have relatives in some war exposed region, defending freedom, and attempting to diffuse the threat of terrorism.  I also realized that I, like most of our employees, have no idea who amongst us has loved ones in such “at risk” locations, and I realized that it would be nice to have a better picture of who in our organization might have concerns, due to such circumstances.  This is not about politics or wars, this is about our fellow employees who have a person “at risk”, fulfilling their commitment to their Nation.

We are therefore setting up a section of our website over the holidays for any employee who wishes to post a picture and a brief note about their loved one, serving in such circumstances.

If you would like to share a photo, please send it in electronic format to Hank Berkley (hberkley@wrberkley.com) by Friday, December 7. Please include your name, the name of the Berkley company you work for, and your relationship to your loved one. The website will be up on Monday, December 17, 2007 and will run through Friday, January 18, 2008.
