John Ameno and Durb Christner discuss 15 years with AMIC: John: When I started there was just a skeleton crew. I was the only loss control guy, other than Dom's dad Nick helping along the way. We didn't even have a Pennsylvania office--I worked out of my home. Durb: Oh gosh! I think I was the fifth person in the office. Our first office was on Highland Avenue in Birmingham. Then we moved to Vestavia for several years before we moved to the location we are in now. more>>>
Pat Ballock: You grew up in Pennsylvania and your family has a close relationship to mining. Tell us about it. My dad was a coal miner in Pennsylvania, where I grew up, and he worked in a coal mine for a number of years. more>>>

Corey Chambliss: The Man Behind MIS. When you came to the company, what position did you start off with? How has your job changed in the almost 10 years you've been here? I was hired as a computer programmer, my first job out of college. I started out creating reports and continuing the development of the ICAMS claims system. more>>>
Charlene Betz: What did you do before you started working here? I worked in Louisiana at a bank in the trust department. I did the balancing and investing—buying and selling of mutual funds and stocks. I did that for 3 or 4 years, but I was at the bank (First National of Houma) for 17 years. more>>>
Don Vass: A Coal Miner and A Poet, Loss Control, Virginia Office. How long have you been involved with the mining industry? I’m starting my 35th year. I started doing general inside labor with Pittston Coal Group. more>>>
Kathy Yaworski: How have things changed since you started working at AMIC? When I first started in May 1992, Dale and Judy had established the AMIC office in Johnstown the year before. We didn't have computers. We did everything by correspondence and mail. more>>>

Kim Edsall: Kim in the Johnstown, PA Office Talks About Claims, Inland Marine and Cheerleading. Since I started working at AMIC things have changed tremendously. When I started, we did outside adjusting work under CGH Claims Service. This was mostly personal lines work that included auto appraising and homeowner’s claims and you can throw in a few farm/barn claims. more>>>
Sylvia Wilkins: I’ve been with Chan for over 19 years—20 in October. I started out with Mining Insurance Markets and have watched as the company changed and grew. When AMIC started, it was just 5 people and now, it has grown to 56 employees. more>>>
Elaine Perkins: How long have you been working in insurance? About 30 years. Before I came to CGH, I handled Property and Casualty claims for All Risk Insurance Company and Amerisure Ins. Co. more>>>
Barbara Cleveland: I began working in the insurance industry in 1982 with Old Republic Insurance Co. in Pikeville, Ky. In 2003, I earned my CWCP (certified workers compensation professional) certification thru Michigan State University. I came to work for AMIC in January, 2005. more>>>
Mike Norwood: Resident Hardware Guy. As the resident hardware expert at CGH, Mike is often asked to help when someone runs into a computer problem. He is the Systems Administrator in the home office. Mike joined the company in 2005. more>>>

Melanie Ostrosky: I joined the American Mining team in February 2006, as a nurse case manager in the Determined Unit of the Claims Department. We recently have expanded our Unit, initiating active, on-site case management in the Birmingham area, in addition to telephonic case management. more>>>
Ed Glenn: When did you get started working in insurance? I trace that back to when I entered graduate school at the Wharton Business School at the University of Pennsylvania. I started graduate school there in fall of 1969 after serving 3 years in the Navy. more>>>
Peter Kamford: I joined W.R.Berkley in January of 2006. Prior to joining, I worked for Guy Carpenter & Company for 26 years as a treaty reinsurance broker. Back in 1986, I worked on my first reinsurance transaction on behalf of Berkley, that being a reinsurance treaty for what is now known as Clermont Specialty Managers, so my association with our firm goes back a bit. more>>>

Leland Walker: Leland works in the home office with the Accounting Department and helps with the Audit Department as well. A typical day for me is processing claims checks, completing worker’s comp audits, and running check registers. more>>>
Kari Wilson: I spent most of my insurance history prior to American Mining working in Charleston WV as a claims manager for Third Party Administrators in WV Workers Compensation. more>>>
Cindy Rogers: I was hired as part of the West Virginia Unit for Johnstown, PA. I am responsible for assisting with medical management of our West Virginia book of business, as well as, being available to assist with medical management of other files on the AMIC side. more>>>
Dave Thomas: On a typical day, I check email messages first thing in the morning. Corey, our IT Manager dispatches work to us through our issue tracking system. When that assignment has been made, meetings to determine the details of the work to be done ensue. more>>>
