The Man Behind MIS
Corey Chambliss

Corey Chambliss

1. When you came to the company, what position did you start off with? How has your job changed in the almost 10 years you've been here?
I was hired as a computer programmer, my first job out of college. I started out creating reports and continuing the development of the ICAMS claims system (see article below about the recent sale). Since we have a relatively small IT department, I was able to learn about most of our systems and network. I now work with the members of my department to keep CGH on the right track to make sure our systems stay relevant to both our business objectives and current and emerging technology.

2. Where did you work before coming here?

My wife and I are from Mobile, AL, about 250 miles south of Birmingham. While going to college at the University of South Alabama, I worked at the Sears telecenter in Mobile. I supervised a team of about 30 call center workers. We took calls from all over the country from customers who needed parts for their microwave oven or lawn tractor or table saw. In that job I learned to deal calmly with problems to resolve them. I learned that when things go wrong, like not getting the right part to fix their chain saw, people are going to get angry or upset but you have to focus on how to resolve the issue and not take things too personally.

DECK SOFTWARE
MAKES SALE

Deck Software, Inc., a subsidiary of CGH Insurance Group, has signed an agreement to provide ICAMS (Insurance Claims and Accounting Management System) to First Commercial Claims Services, LLC. First Commercial Claims Services is an affiliate of First Commercial Insurance Company, a Workers Compensation insurer located in Miami Lakes, Florida. Installation and software support services will be provided by Forte Incorporated, a Birmingham based computer services firm.

ICAMS combines premium, loss and accounting functions into one integrated, reliable and fast user-friendly system. Its data entry modules present the user with the ideal flow of information, while strictly enforcing business rules whether the user is entering claimant information, requesting claims checks, supplying state specific claims information or electronically reconciling the bank statement. ICAMS was developed for American Mining Insurance Company and has been sold to several workers compensation insurance companies and third party administrators.

It's Storm Season Again.

Sometimes we find ourselves on the other end of an insurance claim. Here are 10 tips to help out in case of storm damage.

1. Make sure your home is structurally safe. Be extremely careful inside your home. Debris may be hazardous and the potential for collapse may exist. If you're told by authorities to stay out, stay out.

2. Make temporary repairs to prevent further damage, keeping receipts for materials. Call your agent and get advice about what to do next.

3. If your home is unlivable, find out what living expenses your insurance policy may cover.
