Coal Mining Forecast 2004

Rising natural gas prices, lower stockpiles and shrinking eastern capacity will keep coal prices at a premium in 2004 predicts Coal Age Magazine.

2003 ended on a good note for the U.S. coal business. Coal prices, especially compliance coal in the East, finished strong. The price for natural gas, coal's biggest competitor as a fuel source, was rising as the country prepared for winter. Coal stocks on Wall Street were trading at high prices at year end. Many analysts believe that the coal industry is poised on the brink of improved profitability.

CGH Insurance Group and its primary subsidiary, American Mining Insurance Company, celebrate their 15th Anniversary in 2004. A special celebration is being planned for the Fall. CGH was formed on March 1, 1989 and purchased what was then known as Interlaken Insurance Company on April 4, 1989. Interlaken was immediately renamed American Mining Insurance Company (AMIC).

Initially operations were limited to writing coal mines in Alabama, Tennessee and Pennsylvania. The first year of operation the Company had 5 employees and wrote $2.5 million in premiums. Today AMIC provides insurance in 12 states with annual policy premiums of approximately $35 million and has over 50 employees.

New Hires and Congratulations!

Effective April 2004

Linda Tucker (Birmingham Office) joined the Company on April 1. Linda has assumed Helen Rogers' responsibilities (Helen suffered a stroke in February). Linda has an extensive background in payroll management/employee benefits. Most recently she was employed in the Human Resources Department of Synovus Mortgage Corporation. Prior to joining Synovus, Linda worked for Sears-Roebuck and Company for over twenty five years in various human resources/administrative jobs.

Danna Sanders (Birmingham Office) was married to Jeremy Orton on April 17, 2004. Congratulations!
